On January 26, 2021 the Cibolo City Council discussed the engagement of an executive search firm for a new City Manager. This came about as the current City Manager of the past 9 years, Robert T. Herrera, advised that he was not seeking an extension at the end of his contract that is up in May and would be pursuing other career opportunities.
“The City of Cibolo has been a beacon of growth in the area and I am honored to have been an active role in that,” stated Robert T. Herrera. “This City has been my home for a considerable amount of time, and I wish nothing but success for the current and future leaders of this City. I am excited for this next chapter in my career and look forward to continuing my role as a public servant for years to come.”
During the tenure of City Manager Herrera, Cibolo has attracted AW Texas, an automotive transmission manufacturer, to bring $400 million in capital investment with 900 jobs and a 500,000 sq.ft. facility in Phase 1 with current models estimating a net benefit of nearly $11 million in revenue to the City of Cibolo over 10 years, including annual salaries of $40 million at full operation. The City of Cibolo has also successfully partnered with the YMCA to open a 26,400 sq. ft. facility with a ball field complex and plans to open a Miracle League Field with funding through bond funds and community partnerships, such as the YMCA.
During 2020, the City of Cibolo has seen growth through the duration of the pandemic. Under Herrera’s direction, sales tax rose in 2020 and 18 new businesses chose to open their doors during uncertain times. Cibolo City Hall remained open and fully staffed during the Emergency Declaration enacted by City Council. “All of our employees are essential, and we are here to show the businesses and citizens of Cibolo that we continue our public service during trying times,” stated Herrera.
Mayor Stosh Boyle stated, “Cibolo has been home to exponential growth over the last 9 years under City Manager Herrera. We plan to use this growth as a building block to continue Cibolo’s success.”
City Council will recognize the City Manager for his service to the community closer to the end of his contract. Herrera has over 30 years of progressive city management experience in municipal government. In addition to his city management experience, he remains active in state organizations. He currently serves as Place 1 Trustee and Chairman of the Finance Committee on the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool (TMLIRP) Board of Trustees. Herrera is also a current member of the Texas City Management Association.
Herrera graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and Economics.
