Workforce Development


There are several programs available to assist companies with appropriate training for their workforce. These programs exist for the benefit of businesses that are new to the Cibolo area, start-up companies, as well as existing industries.
 
Workforce Solutions Alamo

Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA), through its Business Services Group, brings business and job seekers together. WSA offers an array of services to help business save money, improve productivity and provide a competitive edge. WSA offer no-cost recruitment and screening services, information on tax incentive programs, labor market information, training and more. WSA services can be customized to meet your specific needs.   • Job matching and referral
  • Career Counseling
  • Information and referral to available community resources for services such as childcare, transportation and housing assistance
  • Assessment of basic skills and work aptitudes of potential employees
  • Professional outplacement services for companies that are restructuring, downsizing or closing operations
  • Job development and placement assistance
  • Information on available training providers and programs
  • Financial assistance for training of qualified individuals
  • Complete interviewing facilities with fax, phone and computer access
  • Current labor market trends and other labor market information including average wages, industry and occupation growth, turnover rates, and more

Skills Development Fund

The Skills Development Fund is Texas' premier job-training program providing training dollars for Texas businesses and workers. The Skills Development Fund is administered by the Texas Workforce Commission, success is achieved through collaboration among businesses, public Community and Technical colleges, Local Workforce Development Boards and Economic Development partners. Skills for Veterans

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Skills for Veterans initiative dedicates $1 million from the Skills Development Fund to address the training needs of post-9/11 veterans returning home and entering the Texas workforce. Skills for Veterans will enhance the skills of veterans, which will benefit Texas employers. Employers who hire post-9/11 era veterans, especially those who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn or Operation Enduring Freedom, may be eligible to participate in this training opportunity.
 
All private businesses, including private, nonprofit hospitals, can apply to TWC for training offered by their local community or technical college, or the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), to upgrade the skills of newly hired veterans. the TWC review the applications and work with the college to fund the specific courses selected by businesses for their employees. Self-Sufficiency Fund

The Self-Sufficiency Fund program assists businesses and trade unions by financing the development and implementation of customized job-training projects for new and current workers. Self-Sufficiency Fund grants deliver businesses customized training solutions that support workforce hiring efforts and skills upgrading for current workers. The purpose of the Self-Sufficiency fund is to provide training for targeted employment opportunities, primarily for adult Temporary Assistance for Needy Families recipients as well as those individuals at risk of becoming dependent on public assistance.
