VERONICA SANCHEZ ANNOUNCED AS CITY OF CIBOLO’S NEW HR DIRECTOR


Veronica Sanchez has accepted the position of Human Resources Director for the City of Cibolo. After a competitive recruitment process attracting more than one hundred (100) applicants, Ms. Sanchez was selected based on her leadership and experience in municipal human resources, as well as her fit with the Cibolo culture. Her anticipated start date is May 20.

Ms. Sanchez will oversee the People & Performance Department. This department is responsible for the management of the City’s workforce through the attraction, selection, training, engagement, assessment, and recognition of employees, as well as the City’s Communications Program and the Performance Management Program (PMP).

Ms. Sanchez is currently the Assistant Director of Human Resources and Civil Service Director for the City of San Angelo, Texas, a role she has filled since 2015. She brings more than 17 years of experience in managing people and programs that will be invaluable in her new role with the City of Cibolo.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Sanchez served as the Interim Director of Human Resources & Risk Management (2018), Human Resources Manager (2008 – 2015) and Human Resources Coordinator (2007 – 2008) for the City of San Angelo. Ms. Sanchez was one of San Angelo’s 20 Under 40 Honorees in 2015, recognizing her leadership and community contributions. She is a long-standing trustee and current Secretary/Treasurer of the Texas Municipal Human Resources Association (TMHRA).

I selected Ms. Sanchez because she has the experience, knowledge, and passion to lead the People & Performance Department to elevate our organization,” said Mr. Wayne Reed, City Manager. “As a recognized Top Workplace in 2023, Ms. Sanchez is the executive leader I need to develop the PPD staff to be more capable of serving our growing municipal organization, lead an employee learning and development program that will build our employees’ skills and knowledge to grow as professionals, advocate for human resources practices and policies that will help attract and retain top talent, and champion employee engagement so our employees remain excited to come to work each day to serve our community.”

Ms. Sanchez received her Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management degree in 2023.  She attained her Certified Public Manager (CPM) credentials in 2011, her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) credential in 2008, and her Society of Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential in 2015. She is on schedule to complete her graduate degree in Organizational Psychology and Human Resources in 2025 from Angelo State University.
